Launch Lab is an engineering lab in a box. Your child builds two launchers — a catapult and a slingshot — then tests them like a real engineer: more sticks, a longer pull, a steeper tilt. Every launch gets measured and written down. Then the data goes to work: two launch events, one champion launcher.

You'll also need six thin books from home — they tilt the catapult in Activity 3.

Tip: clear a strip of floor about two big steps long before you start — launches go farther than you'd think.

The workbook leads the way

Your child builds, launches, measures, and writes down what they find. No science background is needed to help — the companion guide gives you the questions to ask.

Built on real standards

This kit is built on the Next Generation Science Standards. Here are its main targets for grades 3–5.

The reading is much simpler than that. So the kit also works well with 5th and 6th graders who want real engineering without a lot of text.

This means the activities work on the same ideas these standards describe. But no single kit can teach a standard. A child builds that over many years and many experiences.

Cub Scouts: this kit fits several Cub Scout Adventures — for Launch Lab, the Arrow of Light Engineer elective is the closest match. The companion guide lists them. Ask your den leader which parts can count.
